We were talking about characters who had ADHD before it had a name, and I said Maria, from the Sound of Music.
Mark said, "How do you know she had ADHD?"
There were LITERALLY a dozen nuns singing about how she's late for everything but meals, makes them laugh, she's a real issue because she doesn't listen and they can't pin her down, she's a cloud and a moonbeam, and they have no idea with to do with her.
Then she hyperfixates and makes clothes for eight children out of curtains, and teaches them all to sing? Like what part of Maria is *not* ADHD?
Also, it's not very nice for a bunch of your so-called friends to make up a song about you and what a problem you are and how to fix you, but that's Rogers and Hammerstein for you...
Oh, and in case you’re wondering how we arrived her? One of my ADHD kids was singing and making weird noises, and she kept saying, “Manama,” and then we looked up the Muppets video with Manama, and then we ended up down a rabbit hole that took us to the Sound of Music, and here we are.
Maria and Anne of Green Gables and Pippi Longstocking: All kindred spirits.
